Artist Bio
Laura Stoudt is a ceramic artist based in Edmonds, Washington, creating handcrafted pottery and sculptural ceramics inspired by the organic textures of the Pacific Northwest. After earning a BFA in Ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, she moved west and was drawn to the rugged coastlines and ever-changing waterways of the Puget Sound.
Outside the studio, Laura runs a professional dog-walking business and spends much of her free time on the water. These daily immersions in the region's natural world through observing weathered rock formations and tidal patterns form the foundation of her creative practice. She works from her home studio, where she is closely supervised by her three cats, Patsy, Loki, and Marshawn.
Artist Statement
My ceramic work is an exploration of form, surface, and time. Often working with three distinct clay bodies, from smooth porcelain to earthy stoneware, I use layered glazes, slips, and deep textures to capture the shifting light, weather, and tides of the coast.
Rather than a literal representation of nature, each vessel considers the concept of transformation by reflecting the natural weathering of stone and the quiet evolution of organic forms. Ultimately, these pieces are an invitation to slow down. They invite tactile engagement, quiet attention, and a moment of reflection on the fragile, enduring beauty of our coastal environments.
